Seine Mähne leuchtet wie die seines Idols Fußballgott Carlos Valderrama und so lässt der junge Mann sich auch rufen. Er lebt ein Leben ohne Papiere, ohne Verwandte – ohne offizielle Identität. Eines Tages kommt es zu einer folgenschweren Begegnung, nach der er den Provinzort fluchtartig verlassen muss. Er ist nun gezwungen, sich in der Metropole Teheran durchzuschlagen und begegnet dort anderen, die ihr Leben an den Rändern der Gesellschaft leben. Um zu überleben, muss Valderama an Geld und irgendwie an einen Ausweis kommen. Mit dokumentarischer Geste und in lakonischen Bildern folgt der Film dem Protagonisten auf seinem Trip durch eine Welt, in der harter Existenzkampf und Unbekümmertheit nebeneinander bestehen.
His wild mane resembles that of the football star Carlos Valderrama, and the young man has even adopted his idol‘s name. He has no documentation, no family, and no official identity. One day, after a fateful encounter, he is forced to hastily get out of town. Now he has to fight for survival in the big city, in Tehran, where he comes across others who live on the margins of society. Valderama needs to find a way to get money and a passport if he is going to make it. In documental style and laconic imagery the film follows the sympathetic protagonist on his journey through a world where harsh struggle for survivial and carefree stoicism exist side by side.
Abbas Amini 1983 in Abadan, Iran, geboren. Arbeitete zunächst als Regieassistent. Bisherige Kurz- und Dokumentarfilme handeln von den Folgen des irakisch-iranischen Krieges und ihrer Auswirkungen auf Kinder. VALDERAMA ist sein Spielfilmdebüt.
Born in Abadan, Iran in 1983. Started working as an assistant director. His short films and documentaries focused on the consequences of the Iraq-Iran war especially on children. VALDERAMA is his first feature film.
