Einen Sommer lang kümmert sich die 17-jährige Florencia allein um ihren Bruder, der in einem Wachkoma gefangen ist. Sie wäscht und windelt ihn, liegt friedlich Arm in Arm mit ihm auf seinem Bett. Hin und wieder liest sie ihm fasziniert aus einem Comic namens LAS PLANTAS vor, der von Pflanzenseelen handelt, die bei Vollmond Besitz von menschlichen Körpern ergreifen. Abends sucht Florencia im Internet den Kontakt zu fremden Männern. Bilderwelten vom eintönigen Alltag und blühender Fantasie verschmelzen zu einer fas- zinierenden Momentaufnahme aus dem Leben einer jungen Frau, die selbstbestimmt ihre Sexualität entdeckt. In traumartigen Sequenzen und sphärisch-metallischer Musik klingt ein Thriller an.
For a whole summer, 17-year-old Florencia has to look after her brother, who is trapped in a persistent vegetative state. She washes him, changes his nappies, and cuddles up to him in bed. From time to time she reads to him from a comic called LAS PLANTAS, which is about plant souls that take control of human bodies at full moon. At night, Florencia makes contact with men on the internet. Images of her monotonous daily routine and a vibrant fantasy world merge to create a fascina- ting tale of a young woman as she self-determines her own sexual awakening. Dreamlike sequences and atmospheric, metallic music create the mood of a thriller.
Roberto Doveris Studierte Film an der Universidad de Chile und gründete 2010 die Produktions- firma Niña Niño Films. Er produzierte Videoclips, NGO-Videos und Kurzfilme. Viele davon waren auf internationalen Festivals vertreten. LAS PLANTAS ist sein erster Spielfilm.
Graduated in filmmaking at the Universidad de Chile and founded the Niña Niño Films production company. He produced over 30 video clips, NGO videos and short films, many of which have screened in international festivals. LAS PLANTAS is his debut feature film.
